BBDO/Street Grace Event

Creating a sizable visual to raise awareness

Challenge

We were tasked with developing a solution to get graphics on 72 buses with a very limited time frame for a temporary event, then removing all graphics so buses could quickly resume their normal routes.

Solution

BBDO did a wonderful job creating and coordinating this project who's purpose was to bring attention to the large number of children in Georgia who are effected by sex trafficking. The number of children this effects could fill 72 school buses. They created an event, set up a press conference downtown and sent 72 buses lined up with their message to bring awareness. My role within this project was to consult on  producing the graphics.

It's common to use adhesive vinyl to wrap vehicles, but this takes a skilled installer and we were hoping to utilize volunteers for parts of this project. Plus this event was happening over Christmas break when it was very cold outside causing additional material issues. An alternative option was to produce magnets. Our concern was with the shape requested, if wind got under one corner of a strip on the highway, the whole graphics could come off creating a dangerous situation.

After many discussions and material tests, our solution was using a mixture of the two materials. Our installers applied adhesive vinyl to the bus roofs, working around the hatches. While volunteers applied magnets to each side of the buses with us going back and covering the leading edge of the magnets with vinyl to add extra security. We also sent a team downtown to the staging area who could handle any last minute adjustments that came up.

This event received national attention. The buses made quite an impression as they filled the streets in downtown Atlanta.
